10 tricks that famous movie directors use as their trademark

With some directors, you can immediately tell you’re watching a movie they directed just by looking at a still frame without any context. Misfit partners with Beddit to help you get a better night’s sleep

14 Jul

Misfit has announced their latest partnership, this time with Beddit, that will offer folks a way to monitor themselves while sleeping at night with the Misfit Beddit Sleep System

The partnership will include the Beddit Sleep Monitor, a strip that’s been designed to be placed on the mattress and under the sheets of a customer’s bed. Misfit combines the device with its app made for the iPhone and iPad. It states:

Now you can get an accurate picture of your nightly sleep patterns without having to wear anything. Using the world’s thinnest sleep sensor, the Misft Beddit Sleep System seamlessly measures your sleep cycles and quality using heart rate, respiration, movement, snoring, and sound.

The app takes in all that data and shows it to the user, presumably when he or she wakes up in the morning. The app also keeps track of daily and weekly sleep trends. The Beddit Sleep Monitor, which come in either black or white, is now on sale for $149.99. While the app is just for iOS devices at the moment, an Android version is supposed to be “coming soon”.

What do you think of this rather different connected technology product and partnership?

The Differences Between a Budweiser and a Craft Brew (In GIFs)

We all sort of have an idea of how it works: craft brew is lovingly hand-coaxed into existence, while commercial brew is rattled around in big, scary machines, right? Well let’s see with our own eyes. The good folks at St. Louis Public Radio have done a fun GIF series peeking inside the operations of both Anheuser-Busch and a tiny microbrewery.

Washington Post Reporter On the How and Why of Latest NSA Revelations

Last week, The Washington Post published the results of a huge investigation into NSA records leaked by Edward Snowden. Based on tons of data, the paper asserted that ninety percent of messages intercepted by the NSA came from U.S. citizens and non-targets. Today, Post reporter Barton Gellman gives us an inside look into exactly what they saw in those NSA records, why they reported what they did, and the decisions they had to make in covering the leak. It’s a fascinating read, both for what it reveals about the NSA and to give an appreciation of the ethical dilemmas in reporting these events. Check out the whole report here.
